product description
The AB40 Horizontal Adapter serves as a horizontal adapter for the MM340, MM540 and MM700 mounts, providing a 90-degree bridge between their wall plate and the TV mount lifting arm. This allows the wall plate to lay flat on a horizontal surface such as a large shelf or inside a recessed alcove.
Another application for the AB40 Horizontal Adapter Bracket is as a pass-through support for the when mounting the MM340, MM540’and MM700 mounts to thin brick facades or simulated stone panels made from foam, neither of which are strong enough to support the weight of a MantelMount. Please view the Video Tab to see this accessory in action.
NOTE: The AB40 also requires the purchase of the SSB40 Single Stud Adapter to provide the correct mounting holes if mounting an MM340 Standard Mount or the MM540 Enhanced Mount to a horizontal surface or stone/brick facade. The MM700 Pro mount attaches directly to the AB40 Horizontal Adapter Bracket and does not require the SSB40 adapter.
Specifications: Length 310 mm, Front Width 163.5 mm, Side Width 179 mm, Height 2.5 mm, Weight: 5 lbs.
Features:
• Serves as a horizontal adapter for the MM340, MM540 and MM700 mounts.
• Also used as a pass-through support on Stone/Brick facades for the MM340, MM540 and MM700 mounts.
• Matte Black Powder Coated to match MantelMount

Great fix
"My mantle is too deep for a wall install of my Mantle Mount. The adapter allowed us to install it to the top of the mantle instead so it works just fine!"
Couldn’t do it, without MantleMount

"This adaptor allowed us to install the mount horizontally. Easy to install and works great!"
EXACTLY what I needed for my legacy alcove!
"My challenge was to mount a TV bigger than 37" in an outdated alcove which is above a fireplace and mantel. Researched like a madman until I found this website. Bought the MM340 along w/ the required accessories AB40 and SSB40. Installation took several days as I'm slow and didn't want to make a mistake! The online support chat from mantelmount.com was fantastic as long as you catch them before 1:30 pm PST. The bottom line: I'm extremely satisfied with this solution as I can tilt, swivel, lower and raise my new 55" OLED TV to suit my needs. Had I hired a professional, I'm sure it would've cost me > $1K."

Q&A
- I’m having trouble mounting horizontally. Is there more detailed instructions on how to install the MM540 horizontally with the AB40 horizontal adapter
- Hello, Please make sure that you use the AB40 addendum in conjunction with the MM540 install guide. The only AB40 instructions we have are the ones within the link below. What are you having trouble with, in regards to installation. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0758/7331/files/AB40_Adapter_Bracket_Addendum_792ed56d-2ae1-47b9-8410-b3724fed6ac4.pdf?77 -MantelMount Team-
- I read that the mantle needs to be 12.5 inches minimum for the horizontal mantle mount. Is there any workaround or scenario that could make it work with a 12 inch mantle?
- Hello, Currently there is not a work around due to clearance and the fact that you really need that 1/2" for wall plate spacing. -MantelMount Team-
- Do you have a horizontal mount that will work with a 10 inch mantel? There is brick behind the drywall above my mantle and I don't want to drill into it. Thanks.
- Hello, Currently, the minimum sized mantel that will work with the horizontal adapter is 12.5". -MantelMount Team-
- Thanks in advance - would like to mount mm540 on a Pillar of "PERGOLA". The pillar is not exactly 6 inches {Home Depot Sells it as 6 i=x 6 inches} but it's ~ 5.75 inches x 5.85 inches. Can I use AB40 and SSB40 to mount the TV on the Pillar...??? In that case IO do not need the two Horizontal Bars???
- Hello, You could use the SSB40 to mount the MM540 to your pillar. However, you would have to use the 3 lag bolt holes that are down the middle of the SSB40. You will not need to use the horizontal wall plates. -MantelMount Team-
- If I was mounting the MM540 horizontally on a mantle thats 22.5 inches wide. How far back can I mount it and also get the full 27 inch drop?
- Hello, The front of the wall plate, needs to be 1" from the front of the mantel. -MantelMount Team-
- My mantle depths is only about 8.5 inches. Is there anything else I can do to make this work? Hoping that a smaller plate will be designed in the futures for smaller mantle depths.
- Hello, Unfortunately, we do not have a smaller wall plate. The smallest wall plate we have is 11.5" and Ideally you would need a 12.5" mantel for it to work. In the future we should have something to accommodate smaller mantels. -MantelMount Team-
- Will this work with the MM750 pro without the single stud adapter?
- Hello, The MM750 will not work with the single stud adapter. The single stud adapter works with the MM340 and MM540. -MantelMount Team-
- How much depth should the shelf have to mount this?
- Hello, If you're attempting to mount the MantelMount horizontally, the depth of the mantel needs to be a minimum of 12.5" if you're using the MM340/MM540 and a minimum of 15" if you plan on using the MM700. -MantelMount Team-
- Hello, I have an alcove above the fireplace with the following measurements: Height = 32" Width = 52" Depth = 24" There is also a small mantle ledge with a 7" depth. I'm interested in purchasing the AB40 horizontal adapter, the SSB40, and the MM340 mount setup. Will a TV with a 28" height be okay for my situation? Thanks!
- Hi there and thanks for the details! This will work for your use case just as you’re envisioning, no problem!
